Time to settle down.
Everyone is raging on one side or the other. Let's settle in for a minute, and look inward instead of outward.
The Glass of Muddy Water
It’s time to be still.
(Read that sentence again. Then do it before reading on.)
Trauma, horror, devastation are everywhere — whether because of mankind’s violence or because of nature’s response to our ignorance and greed.
We can doomscroll or we can look away. Neither will make us feel better. Even raging at the machine will not significantly change anything out there.
Here’s something I try to practice every single day, though, that does make a difference. And if we all did it—man, that would be incredible.
Poets Andrea Gibson and Megan Falley
on podcast "We Can Do Hard Things”
Anyone who appreciates my writing can thank Megan Falley for a lot of it. I have taken her course Poems That Don’t Suck three times along with some advanced courses. She is mind-blowing. (And yes, if I worked a little harder and had more time, I would come up with a better descriptor. Sorry Megan.)
And then there’s her partner, Andrea Gibson, the newly appointed Poet Laureate for the State of Colorado. Who will also take your breath away and give it new direction, new life.
They’ve both written several poetry books, and you can find their performances on youtube. But this! This is a “double date” with Glennon Doyle and her partner, Abby. They discuss how Megan and Andrea have navigated Andrea’s serious cancer diagnosis, and what profound grace can come from laughing in the face of it. Check it out please.
